Detox Tea: The Perfect Drink for a Quick Weight Loss Cleanse
Detox tea has been getting a lot of publicity lately thanks to the slew of celebrities attributing their weight loss success to natural detox drinks.
Some alternative medicine practitioners believe these detox teas nourish the liver, an organ that aids in the elimination of toxins from your body.
Many people like to work it into their current diet, others use it in conjunction with a detox plan. A brave few do a full detox cleanse and drink only the tea, some for a single day and others a full week.
We recommend either adding it to your current diet or trying it with our Detox Diet Week: 7 Day Weight Loss Cleanse. If you want to go the route of fasting, we recommend you are doing so under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
Types of Detox Tea
Also known as skinny tea, weight loss tea or cleansing tea, a detox tea recipe consists of hot water steeped in herbs or other plant materials such as roots.
There are many types of common ingredients. Herbal tea companies offer a huge variety of leaves to choose from, but there are several ingredients that are the most popular.
Here are the top three types of ingredients:
Green Tea
Green tea is a wonderful drink if you’re looking to lose weight and add nutrients, many love it for it’s detoxifying benefits.
Green tea is packed with antioxidants called polyphenols, which possibly have detoxifying effects and the amount of antioxidants in green tea is more than any other tea. Antioxidants help rid your body of free radicals, which can damage otherwise healthy cells.
There are many green teas out there to choose from, have their own green tea blends! Be sure to get a green tea that is organic and GMO free.
A green tea cleanse is very good for you, but you may want to try it in one of my green smoothie recipes to avoid getting bored with the monotonous flavor, or scroll down for my delicious Iced Detox Green Tea Recipe. Either way, it’s good to drink green!
Next time you visit a coffeehouse ask for a green tea or iced green tea, you can find it just about everywhere. If you’re not in love with the taste, see below for our Green Tea Detox Drink, we added fruit to boost the flavor and fat burning properties.
Dandelion Tea
The roots and leaves of the dandelion plant are used to make Dandelion Tea. It contains lots of antioxidants like vitamins A, C and D, and significant amounts of zinc, iron, magnesium and potassium.
The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of dandelion tea have been used in alternative medicine as a detoxifying agent for the liver. (4)
Milk Thistle Tea
Milk thistle tea is commonly associated with its benefits to the liver. The active ingredient in milk thistle tea is called sylmarin, which is a combination of three flavonoids that are potent antioxidants.
Sylmarin is believed to be responsible for protecting and repairing liver cells, as well as reducing inflammation in the liver.
Benefits of Detox Tea
Research has found that drinking tea may help lower your risk of stroke and heart disease, lower your blood pressure, improve your mood, and even help with weight loss. There is still so much to learn about the detoxifying properties of teas and the many ingredients used in them.
What we do know is that it tastes great, helps get healthy nutrients into your body, increases your water intake (which will help with weight loss and other water benefits), and may help ease some pains and inflammation.
But there is a need for additional research to prove that they are able to eliminate toxins from your body. Because of this, we like to concentrate on the “getting healthy and feeling healthy” aspects of detox tea, and don’t count on them only to remove toxins. If they do, great, but what we want here are herbs that help boost metabolism, give you energy and clear up your skin. Any detox cleanse effects are just a bonus.
Detox Tea Cleanse for Weight Loss
Detox tea has been a popular topic due to it’s popularity with celebrities. Beyonce reportedly lost 20 pounds in two weeks on a cleanse before her role in the film Dreamgirls, and E! News host Giuliana Rancic is said to have used them to slim down her already fit physique for her 2007 wedding.
Perhaps that’s part of the reason for the boom, these teas can help you lose that last few pounds, or jump start a major weight loss journey. They help people in all stages of their weight loss trim a few pounds, making it a great option for just about everyone.
So what is the best detox for weight loss? It’s not just the tea, but a well rounded diet supplemented with these metabolism increasing teas. Our free Clean Eating Weight Loss Plan helps you trim pounds, and the tea recipes at the bottom of this article can help you increase those results.
Many teas have shown results, so what it comes down to is decide which you enjoy, which ones you can afford and consistently see results from. Our current favorite is Red Tea Detox, when we tested the teas, our tester lost 3 pounds in 2 days, just two cups of tea a day along with a healthy diet. Plus red Tea detox teas have lots of flavors to choose from, can be found in many grocery and health food stores and have a reputable, 30+ year history with consumers.

Liver Detox
Eat a healthy all natural diet, stay away from alcohol, cigarettes and prescription (and nonprescription) drugs, live in a rural area with clean air? If you answered yes to all of these, you don’t really need a liver detox, but if you said yes to any of the questions a liver cleansing might be a good thing to do every so often.
Our bodies are strong and know how to remove toxins found in nature, but toxins made in a laboratory are a different issue entirely. While detoxing, stay away (when possible) from these toxins for maximum benefit.
Detox Tea Recipes
Some people find the flavor of the teas strong at first, so here are some recipes to maximize flavor while adding metabolism boosting ingredients. If you plan on icing your tea, use frozen fruit in your glass for an added boost of flavor. We like to replace half the ice with frozen organic berries.
We made these drinks to compliment the teas they are mentioned with, however you can mix and match to create your own blends, or use the recipes with your own favorite skinny weight loss tea.

Pair the above recipes with green tea. Make a pitcher for your fridge and sip your way to a faster metabolism.

1 orange cut into rings

¼ cup ginger, peeled and sliced into rings

What is the Red Tea Detox Program?
The program was created by Liz Swann Miller and is a new approach to detoxify your body, helping it to burn unneeded pounds by switching from carbohydrate fat burning to high-octane burning. It is based on over a decade of medical research revolving around the cleansing of toxins and the benefits of African red tea.
However, there is much more to it than that. The program is very thorough and divided into three parts that help each other: diet, exercise, and mindset.
The above is why we’ve taken this product seriously from the start, because we are health nuts and know there are no push button solutions. What you need is exactly this combination: diet, exercise, and mindset. This is what gets everybody to their goals!
Note that we are picky about our recommendations. We don’t bother writing reviews for silly programs and simply put them on our black list if they are a scam, (like most supplements our there). The fact that we put so much work into this says a lot!
Overview
As mentioned before, the Red Tea Detox system is a combination of 3 important parts. In addition to the main guide, you also receive a booklet for each of these parts, giving you a clear outline on what to do in terms of the diet, the exercise, and the motivational aspect.
The mindset is where a lot of people fail on their journey to a healthier life, so we find the third part to be very important and are glad to see it is addressed so well.
Also, you can get 4 bonuses, which I talk about below. You can qualify for all of those bonuses by clicking through here.
Best Detox Tea Products on a Budget
Part 1: The Diet
In this booklet, you learn how toxins can hold back your metabolism and the benefits of cleansing your body with African red tea. It explains why detoxifying your body before your weight loss efforts is important and worthwhile. Also, you get a clear outline on which energy-rich foods are helpful to your body during its journey to a lean belly.
Part 2: Workout
If you choose to do the workout, it will increase your metabolism and can potentially double the rate at which you lose pounds. Good exercise never goes amiss and losing weight is a matter of intensity, not the time spent doing it. This booklet contains simple exercises that anyone should be able to do.
Part 3: Mindset
Motivation and willpower are just as important as the path that you want to follow. I’ve found that many people have problems stay excited until they reach their goals. This is why a great guide on fitness, dieting or detox should always include a section on the right mindset. It speaks positively of this guide that you get one!
What Bonuses are There?

Bonus 3: The 5 Detox Methods of Fabulous Celebrities

Positive Points
1) Credible
Today, even ordinary foods usually contain toxins in one way or another. There is a large amount of research that confirms our common sense: Detaching yourself from these toxins and cleansing your body as much as possible has positive effects. Liz explains it so anyone can understand the problems and solutions.
2) It works
The combination of exercise and healthy foods & drinks obviously can not fail. Better yet, it solves one of the main food related problems today: the excessive consumption of soda (especially in the USA). For many people, it is the only thing they drink (instead of water).
If you are like this, switching from sugary sodas to red tea alone makes a huge difference to your body. But then you also detoxify it, so the effects are even greater.
3) It targets the root of all weight issues
The human body is meant to be physically active and live on natural foods, but we generally don’t do either of these! People drink soda, coffee, or beer, sit behind a desk or lie on our couch. Not only is this ancient African tea recipe amazing, it also happens to be a healthy beverage to begin with. No sugar or caffeine! Combined with the fitness booklet, both of the fundamental issues are addressed and lead you to positive results.
4) 60 day Money back guarantee
We love this.
5) Bonuses
If you click here to go to the official website, you get all bonuses with the Red Tea Detox.
If you are really big, chances are you have more ailments than just your weight and looks that need to be addressed. Make sure you don’t see any program as a solution for all of that.
Neutral Points to Consider
1) Needs Discipline
Red tea is great, as are the guidelines, foods, and workout routines in this program. But any such effort needs to be maintained. Can you keep it up for a few months and even change your behavior to stay being healthy indefinitely? Or are you the kind of person who tries this for a week and then gives up? The truth is that a lot of programs work well, while it’s the people that often don’t. Any real system needs discipline to keep doing it.
As a health and yoga coach, I’m already fit and lean, but as always I accompanied my friends on this journey and did the same things they did.
Our goal was to get both of them to change their habits, start doing exercise, and lose weight. Have we succeeded?
2) Does not replace healthcare
Our Red Tea Detox Results!
Back to our friends Mariah and Jill. During the past two months, they did everything the Red Tea Detox guide told them. Jill is especially interesting, because she was 76 pounds overweight at the beginning and a real soda nut. She used to drink soda the way I drink water.
After the first month, Jill completely omitted soda from her life and banned it in her household – even her husband is now soda-less to my great amusement 🙂 She lost about 18 lbs the first month. Mariah was only 34 lbs overweight when she started and lost 12 pounds in that first month. This is a healthy time span to lose that kind of weight. Too much is not healthy and not sustainable, so we were pleased with that.
After the second month, Jill had lost a total of 31 lbs, while building her muscles by doing the exercise. She thus lost more weight in terms of fat than those 31 lbs, given she added some muscle mass. At this point, she has lost about half of what she needs to. It does not surprise me, given she no longer drinks any soda! For Mariah, the change was less dramatic, because she started with less weight to begin with. She has lost 19 lbs by now, slightly more than half of what she needs to.
Interesting!
Both of them first missed the good, strong taste of soda, because they were so used to it. By now, however, they are used to it and also like to drink water. In fact, they have come to love red tea!
In a few months, I shall update this review once we have more results as time passes. The rate of fat loss should become slower and slower the less overweight my friends are, but it has already paid off a lot and they are happy 🙂
